I was initially drawn to this film because I knew Steve Little could make me laugh. The Catechism Cataclysm was no exception; Director Todd Rohal does a good job in creating a comedy that lets your imagination run wild throughout the film’s entire runtime.
Father Billy (Steve Little) may be one of the least competent priests ever to wear the collar. Not because he’s mean, not because he doesn’t care, it’s just that being a decent priest requires you to be an and Billy is simply an enormous man child, completely ill-equipped to serve the needs of his parishioners. His Bible Studies consist of funny urban legends. His preparation time spent searching for silly YouTube videos. His ring tone is a heavy metal riff. Whatever the incredibly simplistic and naive Billy may be suited for, the priesthood, realistically, is not it. After Billy invites his sister’s high school boy boyfriend on a canoe trip, he begins an adventure that will change his aspect on life forever.
The combination of Robert Longstreet and Steve Little is a great one. The interaction between Robbie and Billy is what grounds the film and gives it a believable heart, This allows for the movie to develop the story in a way that will keep you interested the whole way through. The Catechism Cataclysm makes for a good laugh. The films message of never giving up leaves you with a good feeling, and I would recommend that you check this movie out especially if it comes to a film festival near you. Catechism is a Salvador Dali portrait of the mind of a twelve-year-old boy on acid stuck in the body of a priest, jammed into a canoe, swilling a case of beer and rocking out to the Slayer anthology. Rohal achieves this, all while providing the painful belly laughs provided by an all-night marathon of This is Spinal Tap.
The film starts out on a day like any other, (for those of us trying to make up for a life of sin,) in church. Father Billy (Steve Little of HBO’s Eastbound and Down,) is a bumbling, incompetent vibram five fingers shoes , viral-video-obsessed priest who lacks the good sense to hide his foibles and idiosyncrasies from his parish. This… and he provides Kaufman-esque belly laughs by yanking the rug out from under our brains ’til our funny bones can’t take it any more… and start punching the crap out of our stomachs. Rohal’s objective seems to be to twist our minds into a magic-unicorn pretzel, so it is no surprise that his faux-parable spouting Father Billy is a vehicle for bringing the audience on a what-the-just-happened ride down the murky waters of the river Absurdia only to arrive at a boy-scout camp run by Old Scratch who is presumably messed up on peyote.

On the day that Billy attempts to draw a moral conclusion with the “parable” of an old woman who pulls out a gun on a pair of would-be-thieves, the elder clergy at the Church decide that they’ve had enough. Billy is ordered to reconsider his vocation and sent on a spiritual vacation. Enter Robbie (Robert Longstreet,) the heavy-metal, head-banging roadie/ former boyfriend of Father Billy’s sister. Billy’s sister, naturally is long since out of the picture, but this seems to matter little to our church-going leading man who, as it turns out, has been keeping tabs on his head-banging buddy since high school, and has always been a big fan of his writing. Of course, this is the furthest thing from Robbie’s mind since he can’t even remember Father Billy, and only agreed to the trip to get Billy to stop sending him emails.

Marriage is on my mind, can’t say how soon John Abraham
Bollywood hottie John Abraham can’t remember the last time he had taken a break. And though the actor’s planning to take a few days off later this month, he says it will be a working holiday. Films apart, keeping him busy is his production house that’s gearing to foray into filmmaking. But fresh off the success of his latest release and another hit earlier this year, the actor admits that it’s been a good year — professionally. Personally, it’s been no different, as John seems to have apparently taken his friendship with good friend Priya Runchal to the next level — the two have been seen making public appearances as a couple of late. In a chat with DNA, the actor gets candid about his future plans:
You’ve had two hits this year — your recently released comedy and the action thriller Force. What are you more comfortable with?
Well, action’s always come easy to me, so it’s something I’ve always been comfortable with and can identify with the Action Abraham tag. As far as comedy is concerned, I do feel that I’ve evolved a great deal.
What do you prefer — your action image or sexy tag?
The action image is sexy (laughs).
Mainstream masala entertainers seem to work better for you, as compared to your experimental roles…
Whether those films work or not, they’ve all helped me evolve as an actor. But I know how important a hit is to continue doing the kind of films you want to. But yes, for now I will leave those films to my production house.
Is that why almost all your films in hand now are action thrillers or comedies?
No, that’s actually just co-incidence that Race 2, Shootout at Wadala, Housefull 2 and I, Me Aur Main… all fall under these two genres. But what I am really keen on doing now are action comedies like Rush Hour.
Would you want to remake the Hollywood flick?
Certainly. In fact, my production house is looking at acquiring the rights of several international films, not just from Hollywood, but from across the globe as well.
Two hits and a production house under your belt…
Yes, it’s good to end the year with the aftertaste of success (laughs) and on a happy note. But I’m more excited about the year ahead now.
What about your personal front. Will we see you settling down soon?
Yes, marriage is on my mind for sure, though I can’t say how soon yet. To be honest, I think I’ve been kind of callous about these things in the past, but now I want to maintain the sanctity of my personal life and fiercely guard whoever’s in it. I am not shying away from commitment, and I do want to see myself in that settled and serene personal space. I’m moving towards it, but it’s not something I want others to decide for me.

Depp and Burton are the next Sad Keanus.
The days of nobody knowing what the hell Tim Burton is directing next have come to an end. Dark Shadows starring Johnny Depp (and probably Helena Bonham Carter) will be inked in next to sketches of mawkish bats in the director’s day planner. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunterauthor Seth Grahame-Smith is taking over scripting duties from long-time Burton collaborater John August, to adapt the spooky 1960′s soap opera. Filming begins in February with Johnny Depp playing the vampire Barnabas Collins. We’ll keep you updated on which goofy wig he’ll end up in this time. (Deadline)

Anne Hathaway is certainly trying to cram as many genres as possible into her career, and she’s about to take a stab at a spooky thriller.
Sony is developing Passengers, which has a grief counsellor (Hathaway) helping six plane crash survivors. She develops a special connection with one of them (we’re guessing romantic, but you never know what they’ve got in store) but is drawn into a possible conspiracy when the other survivors start to vanish mysteriously. So what do you think she does? No, not run away and refuse to get involved… she investigates.
Ronnie Christensen has penned the script and Nine Lives’ Rodrigo García will be swinging the megaphone early next year.

They’ve done toys, creepy-crawlies, monsters, sea-creatures and superheroes… Now Pixar have added the world of Cars to their blend.
The movie is centred on the life of the world-famous racing car Lightning McQueen, who, en route to a big race, gets waylaid in a little town called Radiator Springs. There he meets some interesting pick-ups and old bangers as well as a tasty little Porsche that leaves him for dust.
Written and directed by John Lasseter, the animated-comedy boasts the vocal talents of Owen Wilson, Paul Newman, Bonnie Hunt and Michael Keaton.

Tom McCarthy to pen Home MoviesWin Win director taking a trip through time
By Josh Winning | Jun 8th 2011
Win Win and The Visitor director Tom McCarthy has signed on to write a supernatural family comedy called Home Movies.Heat Vision report that the plot follows a man who can revisit and change moments from his life by re-watching his old home movies. Thus far, McCarthy has excelled in helming stories about conflicted middle-aged men who aren’t necessarily happy with how their lives have turned out.Which makes him the perfect writer for this project, even though it’s pandering to a different market than McCarthy’s used to.With McCarthy wielding the pen, that intriguing premise should be afforded the same kind of depth and humanity that his other films have boasted. In short: don’t expect The Butterfly Effect 4.
